ABOUT ABOUT

Homostratus (Mother’s Room)

Great cinema is visual poetry in motion. Homostratus (Mother’s Room) is an experimental film that pays homage to this fact in its presentation of random and moving images of human life.

Homostratus features scenes of everyday citizens in the busy metropolis of Saigon. It is a work of surreal art from director Síu Phạm, who explores the effects of consumerism and technology on our lives. Tales of dying, destiny, and divorce come together to reveal the comic tragedy of our contempo rary society. The main story follows one man, whose life is suddenly turned upside down when he is presented with a strange job offer. Prowling the streets for trouble while being monitored himself, the man finally has a chance to make a good salary in the city. But just when his luck turns, he is forced to take care of his lazy teenage son who comes to
stay with him. Though the father introduces the boy to his newfound trade, the teenager dreams of making it big as an entertainer. On the day the father is supposed to receive his paycheck, his secret boss comes out from the shadows to force a shocking sexual confession that threatens to turn everything into disarray again. We live in crazy and confusing times, but powerful films like Homostratus help us to see the beauty that can be formed out of chaos.
